The Power of Women Creating Together
An Ode to Collaboration, Support, and Amplifying Female Voices
I’ve always believed in the power of storytelling. But more than that, I believe in who tells the stories.
This week’s BTS episode, Behind the Rehearsal & Music, is more than just a glimpse into the process of creating movement and sound for Mind of Thoughts. It’s a love letter to something deeper — the magic that happens when women come together, not just to work, but to lift each other up, to create, to push boundaries, and to make something bigger than themselves.
The choreographer. The composer. The lead actress. The dancers. All women. Each bringing their own artistry, energy, and perspective to this film. And that? That matters.
When Women Support Women, Magic Happens
We talk a lot about representation in film. About seeing women on screen. But what happens behind the camera — who gets to shape the narrative — matters just as much.
As we all know, cinema has long been dominated by male voices, male perspectives, and male-driven stories. And while that’s shifting (Thank God!), there’s still so much work to do. That’s why spaces where women can lead, collaborate, and create together are so vital.
And that’s exactly what happened in Mind of Thoughts.
There’s something special about working with women who understand each other’s language—whether that language is movement, music, or emotion. There’s an unspoken trust, an instinctive rhythm, an energy that doesn’t ask permission to exist — it just does.
I saw it unfold in rehearsals, in the way the dancers breathed life into each movement, the way the music intertwined seamlessly with the choreography, the way Brienne, our lead actress embodied, every beat, every shift, every note. It was more than just preparation for a scene; it was alchemy. The kind of creative synergy that doesn’t need explanation. (Not to be dramatic, but it felt like witchcraft. The good kind.)
Building a Table, Not Tearing One Down
Don’t get me wrong — I love men. I celebrate men. I love working with men. Some of my best collaborations have been with incredible male artists, and I will always champion the work of those who inspire, uplift, and respect.
I also share my home with a very cute, four-legged gentleman who gets away with way more than any human ever should.
But I also know this:
I don’t want to rise above men. I want to rise alongside them. I want to build a table where our voices, our value, and our input are just as important as theirs. Where our presence isn’t treated like some bold artistic choice — just the obvious one.
Because that’s what equality actually means. It’s not about replacing one power with another. It’s about balance. It’s about worth. It’s not about “giving” women a seat at the table, it’s about recognizing that we should’ve been there all along. (And maybe — just maybe — the table could use a little redecorating while we’re at it.)
And in Mind of Thoughts, I felt that — a space where female voices didn’t just have a seat at the table, they set the tone.
An Ode to Women Creating Together
To our choreographer, who shaped stories through movement.
To our composer, who gave it a heartbeat.
To our dancers, who let their bodies speak what words could not.
To our lead actresses, who carried its weight, letting every step echo with meaning.
To my mother, who taught me strength in softness and the power of standing tall.
To my grandmother, whose wisdom and resilience run through every part of me.
To every woman who has ever hyped up another woman’s work, cheered when she got the job, sent a “YES QUEEN” text at 2 AM, or recommended her for an opportunity: this is for you.
Because when we celebrate each other, when we amplify each other’s voices, when we create together — there’s no limit to what we can do.
